Conceptual Summary of the 2014 Season

One of the major commitments of the Glaucio Gill Theater Occupation PRESENTS was to combine commitment to the audience, artists, and producers. With years of theater experience, always working as a producer/creator, we saw a need in Rio de Janeiro for personalized work when taking over a theater. Day by day, our intuitive conviction was confirmed: the theater must be thought of as a cultural building, considering its surroundings, its location, the neighborhood's characteristics, and how it can EXPAND and reach neighboring neighborhoods. It seems commonplace, but we didn't experience this when visiting theaters in our city and state.

We reached the end of the year with a total of 25 shows, including adult and children's productions. Of these, 17 were premiering in Rio. The Glaucio Gill Theater reached 13 million spontaneous media views in print media alone, not counting radio and television. Additionally, the Ocupação offered eight free workshops, debates, and dramatized readings. It also created the TGG Membership Card, with 2,200 subscriptions, to build loyalty and track the audiences who frequent the space—an innovative and extremely important initiative for the productions, the theater, and the audience. We hope that all theaters will replicate this idea.

When we presented the project to elevate the theater's reputation by naming it: TEATRO GLAUCIO GILL APRESENTS, we hoped to fulfill our goal: the mission of highlighting the theater, so that when we premiere there in the future, we will have a hot spot... a vibrant place in the market. We greatly miss the Glaucio Gill Theater's reputation in the market; we miss greater democratization of the space, and we're not just talking about companies and producers, we're talking about the PUBLIC! Theater needs to build audiences, and how do we do that? With quality plays, because that's the best style of theater. When theater is good, there's nothing better, regardless of its style. We put on at the Glaucio Gill Theater some of the best and for many, many tastes... psychological plays, fragments, comedy, drama, experiences, research, realism, symbolism.
